The 2025 edition of the Regulating the Game (RtG) conference will take place at the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour in Australia from March 10-13.

The eagerly anticipated event will attract gaming regulators, industry leaders and compliance experts from around the world.

Issues such as gambling regulation, public policy and industry transformation will be among a plethora of key talking points.

A Closer Look at RtG 2025

RtG 2025 features a stellar line-up of speakers, panel discussions, masterclasses and networking opportunities. It will tackle the most pressing challenges and key trends in the gambling industry.

This year’s discussions are tailored to help attendees keep abreast of regulatory changes, improve compliance strategies and foster sustainable growth.

RtG 2025 will offer attendees the chance to engage with experts, stakeholders, regulators and industry professionals from Europe, Asia, North America and several other regions.

New Zealand will also be well-represented. Their involvement is particularly noteworthy given the recent discussions surrounding the nation’s online gambling regulatory landscape.

Offshore operators dominate the landscape where New Zealand betting apps are concerned, which presents challenges from a regulatory perspective.

However, the Kiwi government is taking steps towards creating a more robust framework for online gambling and the upcoming conference will provide useful insights they can utilise.

RtG 2025 will cover key topics such as regulatory leadership, anti-money laundering (AML) reforms, responsible gambling initiatives, emerging technology and cybersecurity.

Discussions will focus on balancing strict regulatory oversight with innovation, improving player protection and tackling issues related to black market gambling operations.

There will also be discussions around advertising, marketing and public sentiment, the expanding role of artificial intelligence in compliance and innovative approaches to responsible gambling.

Dr Marla Royne Stafford’s Role as Conference Chair

One of the most exciting additions to this year’s event is the appointment of Dr Marla Royne Stafford as the first Conference Chair for RtG.

Dr Stafford is a Professor of Marketing at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in the United States (UNLV) and a recognised authority on responsible gambling.

She has been tasked with introducing key speakers and steering conversations on some of the key issues in the gambling sector, including policy, leadership and emerging technology.

Having worked with the American Gaming Association and AMZC Limited, Dr Stafford is one of the most experienced figures in conversations relating to gambling regulations and responsible gaming.

She also serves on the Board of Advisors for the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling and is a Faculty Scholar at UNLV’s International Gaming Institute.

“I am deeply honoured and excited to serve in this leadership role at the 2025 Regulating the Game Conference,” Dr Stafford said after her appointment.

“The conference is one of the premier annual events in the gaming world, featuring thought leaders and stimulating important discussions in a fast-moving industry.

“It is truly a privilege to be part of the organising committee and help advance needed conversations in policy, regulation, leadership, ethics and the future of the industry.”

David Tsai to Speak at the RtG Conference

Crown Resorts chief executive David Tsai will also be speaking at the upcoming conference.

Tsai has plenty of experience in the integrated resort industry. He joined Crown in December 2022 and helped to shape the company’s future.

He initially served as chief executive of Crown Perth before stepping into the role of chief executive officer for Crown Resorts, taking over from Ciaran Carruthers.

Tsai has over 20 years of experience in the industry. He spent 15 years with MGM Resorts International, where he served as President of the Midwest Group, overseeing Grand Detroit and Northfield Park.

He also spearheaded the $550 million redevelopment of the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino into new lifestyle luxury brands Park MGM and NoMad Las Vegas.

Tsai has worked on integrated resort operations across seven states in the United States and Australia and highlighted the importance of RtG in shaping the future of gaming regulations.

Regulating the Game provides a great platform to discuss the regulatory landscape for the gaming industry,” he said.

“I look forward to sharing our insights, learnings and vision to embrace guest safety and wellbeing while becoming the leading entertainment destinations in Australia.”
