The business world is being revolutionized by the women entrepreneurs of today. They are doing everything, from dominating sports to running their prosperous corporate empires. The days of women feigning boldness and decisiveness while dreading their ability to juggle family and jobs are long gone. These leaders are currently in the spotlight on a global scale thanks to their unique ideas, sharp intellect, and intimidating attitude.
One such lady with strength, distinction, and influence is Karen Simon. Karen leads Emersons Commercial Management US, LLC as the President and Senior Managing Partner. It is a real estate company that offers tenants of properties held in common professional property management services. She is a wonderful women leader who is advancing the real estate sector through her skillful management.
Path to Real Estate
Karen graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelor of Science in history and education. She just had a year of teaching experience in a Fort Worth high school. She was the youngest teacher ever appointed to teach in a high school in the Fort Worth area when she began her career at 20.
When Karen stumbled upon a flyer stating that one may become a real estate broker after completing 900 classroom hours of real estate-related study or 60 semester hours of real estate-related education, her real estate career officially began. She took a two-week leave of absence and continued her education after hours and on weekends. After successfully passing the test, Karen received her broker’s license.
Establishment of Emersons
In 2004, Matt Price, a CPA, and real estate investor, and Richard Webb, a banker who had also become interested in real estate, launched Emersons’ Commercial Real Estate. They each had the chance to acquire a sizable portfolio to sell while working for a family trust. In 2004, they established their business, and Karen joined them in 2016. The company’s corporate headquarter was in Dallas, while the office was in Oklahoma City.
Karen wants Emersons Fort Worth to grow and increase its commercial real estate portfolio, as well as get involved in property management. Due to its expertise, the company currently refers all property management to its Dallas office. Karen would prefer for the Fort Worth office to have another growth opportunity though. She thinks Emersons is still young and developing. The company can provide ownership to anyone who joins the team.
What Emersons Offers?
Emersons offers a variety of real estate-related services, such as buying, selling, leasing, and managing. These services can be specially designed to meet each client’s needs, allowing them to take an active or passive role as appropriate. In addition to offering construction services, the company also offers full-service management. Additionally, it can create a management program that meets the needs of the businesses of its clients. The business offers its clients safe, real-time access to property operational results, financial statements, and tenant information through the use of cutting-edge technology, including the Internet and ASP software.
The core values of the company are like most companies to be financially successful. Women are also given a lot of opportunities in the Emerson group. The company has people from all types of backgrounds, varying from different cultures and ethnicity. It’s a company that motivates people to be successful and allows them to succeed.
Overcoming Challenges
Karen realized that clients didn’t care as long as one was prepared and understood to handle their business. She was prepared to put in a lot of effort, but her male colleagues in the real estate industry were a little less accepting of her involvement.
Karen has several objectives, including growing the firm and managing the employees, however, her main focus is on making sure the company is running effectively. She is responsible for managing both company’s development and human resources.
Furthermore, she brings experience, education, and willingness to go the extra mile to the table. She is not afraid to say; I don’t know, and yet tries to find out. For instance, she asserts, “I’m not afraid to say, I don’t know, but I’m willing to find out, and I think that’s a key factor. Those people will forgive you for not knowing something, as long as you’re willing to find out for them.”
Empowering Women
Karen stood out because she was one of the few women working as an industrial realtor. As she was a bit of an outlier, she gained exposure. As a result, it opened some doors since people realized that women could accomplish the work if given the chance and knowledge to do so. Karen has continually worked to keep doors open for women in the real estate industry.
Life beyond Work
Karen is an empty nester because her children don’t reside with her. However, she and her husband adore their 2-year-old pet, Björn, and look forward to seeing him at the end of the day.
Her husband is very encouraging, and her two sons are aware that their mother is always there for them. As she needed to take care of herself to set a good example for her children, be a good mother, and be a decent person, Karen recognized she couldn’t be a PTA parent.
Guiding words
Karen’s response, when asked for advice for the next generation of female leaders, was that it doesn’t matter what industry they’re entering. She says, “If you study your art if you have a readiness of spirit, it’s going to show through if you treat other people decently. Although there may be a few hiccups along the way, you’ll eventually succeed.”
