A farming entrepreneur Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones has recently launched an initiative called ‘New Faces in Farming’ in the field of food and agriculture industry for young leaders. He is working with the Writtle Agricultural College in Essex to find the young leaders with the help of this initiative. Through the initiative, Wilfred is trying to encourage young leaders from diverse backgrounds into the agriculture industry. This could be a welcoming step for many beginners who have interest in the field and who are willing to explore it in their career.

What is this Initiative about?

‘New Faces of Farming’ will offer young people from a wide range of backgrounds an opportunity to learn about careers in this exciting sector. Participants will visit WUC’s working farm and experience a weekend of socializing and life on a university campus.

Applications are open to young people between the ages of 16 and 18. Overall 20 candidates will be selected to go on all-expenses paid weekend to Writtle College to get a taste of living and working in agricultural industry. The applicants without any experience in this field are also welcome here.

Benefits to Applicants and the Industry

The initiative is a golden opportunity for young entrepreneurs to make a good start of their career in food and agriculture industry. The new faces in the farming will discover new areas of research and development in agriculture.

The residential weekend is taking place between 7 and 9 October – at the start of Black History Month – at Writtle’s countryside campus. After this weekend candidates can start applying for courses in food and farming.

Expressing his views on the initiative, Writtle University College’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Tim Middleton said, “We are pleased to be working closely with Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones to launch this important initiative. Agriculture should be a sector that welcomes everyone and our residential weekend marks the first of a series of measures aimed at widening access to this rewarding industry.
