A renewable fuel facility does not arrive in a single moment. It arrives through financings, construction schedules, negotiations with landowners and utilities, and the patient work of persuading legislators that the policy environment should support it. Few careers have touched all of those moving parts as directly as the one now leading Redtail Renewables.
Casey Holsapple is Co-founder and President of Redtail Renewables, based in Indianapolis, Indiana. He has held the title of President since April 2026, after serving as Co-founder and CEO from May 2023 to April 2026.
Building the Platform
Redtail is a renewable natural gas platform backed by an equity commitment from Inyarek Partners, focused on renewable natural gas and energy infrastructure. Under Casey’s leadership, it has scaled from startup through multiple operating assets and a multi-project development pipeline. By late 2026, the company reported projects across four states, with approximately 3.3 billion cubic feet per year of pipeline-quality renewable natural gas capacity in operation or execution.
The portfolio includes the West Daviess County Landfill project in Kentucky, which became fully operational in October 2025, as well as projects advancing through agreements with Yolo County, California, and Greenwood County, South Carolina, in 2026. These developments illustrate how landfill gas can become a commercial energy resource while creating long-term value for landfill owners and host communities.
His work spans several layers of the business. He held full P&L responsibility, overseeing strategy, budgeting, capital allocation, and operating performance across development, construction, and operations. He also built and managed a cross-functional leadership team spanning finance, development, engineering, operations, and commercial execution.
Casey reported directly to investors and board members. He led board communications, strategic planning, and capital allocation decisions, which means the platform’s ownership and its day-to-day operations meet on his desk.
From CEO to President
Casey’s first chapter at Redtail was as Co-founder and CEO. In April 2026, the company appointed Claus Nussgruber as CEO, with him moving into the role of President and continuing to lead the commercial team.
The transition changed the division of leadership responsibilities, but it did not remove Casey from the work of expanding the platform. His continuing focus is on commercial execution, partnerships, and the development of a portfolio capable of growing beyond its initial assets.
The Deals Behind the Assets
The platform has not been built by construction alone. Casey led M&A and investment execution, including asset acquisitions, joint ventures, and complex commercial negotiations with sponsors, landowners, utilities, and offtakers. He also structured and closed project-level financings involving tax credits, debt, and commercial arrangements, while managing construction and operational risk.
His work spans the full asset lifecycle, from strategy and capital allocation to mergers and acquisitions, project finance, construction, commercialization, and operations. It also brings him into close contact with boards, investors, regulated utilities, municipalities, and institutional counterparties.
Lessons From Kinetrex and Kinder Morgan
Casey’s path to Redtail ran through Kinetrex Energy, where he spent three years and five months. He was General Counsel and Vice President of Government Affairs in Indianapolis from February 2019 to October 2021.
Over a longer span, from June 2018 to October 2021, he was Vice President of RNG Development and Governmental Affairs. At Kinetrex, he played an integral role in developing the company’s renewable natural gas platform and preparing it for its eventual sale to Kinder Morgan in 2021.
His overlapping responsibilities combined legal leadership, government affairs, and renewable natural gas development experience that brought commercial execution and regulatory considerations into the same decision-making process.
He then moved to the buyer. From October 2021 to May 2023, he was Vice President of Business Development at Kinder Morgan, Inc., a role of one year and eight months. Redtail’s founding followed in May 2023.
A Seat at the Table
Casey has also served on three project-company boards. Two of those appointments are particularly relevant to his experience in infrastructure development. From November 2018 to May 2023, he sat on the Board of Managers of Indy High BTU LLC, serving across the development and commercial life of the project.
From January 2015 to June 2018, he sat on the Board of Managers of Pioneer Transmission, LLC. His responsibilities included corporate strategy and P&L management. For a founder, board experience from the other side of the table matters. He has been the director weighing management’s plans, and now he is the executive presenting them.
Where the Law Came In
Before moving into energy development, Casey practiced law. From August 2011 to June 2018, he was Associate General Counsel at Duke Energy Corporation in Indiana. Earlier, from September 2007 to August 2011, he was an Attorney at Bingham McHale LLP.
Together, those roles gave him a close view of how regulated utilities operate and how large energy projects are documented. It is a useful vantage point for someone who now negotiates with those same counterparties.
His subsequent progression from legal counsel to government affairs, renewable natural gas development, business development, and executive leadership reflects the breadth of experience required to move energy projects from commercial agreements to operating infrastructure.
Policy as Part of the Work
Public policy has remained an important part of Casey’s work. He has worked with policy leaders and legislators to promote legislation and public policy that supports the development of renewable fuels and energy projects.
That work connects to his earlier government affairs responsibilities at Kinetrex. In the renewable fuels sector, where incentives and regulation shape what can be financed, a founder who understands both the statute and the spreadsheet holds a real advantage. It suggests a leader who sees regulation not as a hurdle outside the business, but as part of the terrain a business must learn to cross.
The Circular Link
This issue celebrates leaders advancing circular energy through waste-to-resource innovation. Casey’s career follows one strand of that story: the commercial and legal architecture that lets energy infrastructure get built and last.
As a renewable energy and infrastructure executive, he has helped develop platforms in a capital-intensive industry where financing, policy, partnerships, and operational discipline must work together. As President of Redtail Renewables, he continues to apply that experience to landfill-gas recovery and renewable natural gas development.
The company’s expanding portfolio illustrates the principle at the heart of his work: methane that would otherwise escape or be flared can be captured, upgraded, and delivered as pipeline-quality renewable fuel. Each project requires more than technology. It requires agreements that align landfill owners, investors, utilities, regulators, and buyers around a commercially viable outcome.
At Redtail, Casey is working to turn that alignment into durable infrastructure that can grow from individual projects into a broader renewable natural gas platform.
